The Centreville Wildcats improved to 5-0 last night with a 49-3 victory over the Hawks of Hayfield. Centreville scored early and never looked back. In a game marred with penalties, almost 200 yards between combined, the Wildcats put up points from both sides of the ball. Senior Chase Walter returned an interception 30 yards for a touchdown and later scooped up a Hayfield fumble and took it nearly 70 yards for another TD-- all in the first quarter.
In the third quarter, Walter scored on a 37-yard pass reception from senior quarterback Mitch Ferrick. Speaking about both sides of the ball, Wildcat All-Met potential Ken Ekanem, playing from the tight end position, scored on a 14-yard pass reception. In addition, Ekanem, from the defensive end position, applied pressure all night, particularly in passing situations. Another remarkable note is Centreville kicker Jared Rondeau. Not only did the senior connect on all extra points, he put every kickoff into the end zone on the fly for the automatic touchback.
Centreville hosts Robinson next Friday night while the 3-2 Hawks travel to Wakefield.
