Centreville Runs Wild Against Mt. Vernon
The second-ranked Centreville Wildcats’ formidable running game proved to be too much for the host Mt. Vernon Majors as the Wildcats scored seven of their eight touchdowns on the ground. Wildcats get the win 56-13. All-Met potential Manny Smith scored three touchdowns and rushed for over 150 yards, even with sitting out the fourth quarter. Centreville senior running back Connor Coward also found the end zone three times. Senior wide receiver Chase Walter made a beautiful over-the-shoulder 14-yard reception in the end zone for Centreville’s lone passing touchdown. Finally, junior running back Marcel Smith, sweeping around the left end scampered 48 yards for the final Centreville touchdown of the night.
Mt. Vernon, playing aggressive all night, did manage two late-game touchdowns. Senior Dennis Mensah sprinted for a 40-yarder while senior Sadiq Oyedele squeezed in from 2 yards out.
Centreville improves to 3-0 and plays at home next Friday night against Herndon. Mt. Vernon falls to 1-2 and plays at Washington-Lee next Friday evening.
