The first half of Stafford's game vs. Brooke Point was certainly not what the Indians envisioned. Up just 1-0 at halftime, players were seen bickering as they walked off the field after the first thirty minutes of play. Coach Dani Woodie must have done her best Knute Rockney impersonation during the break, because the Tribe emerged in the second half as a revitalized group.
The Indians scored four second half goals, seizing the momentum for good and preserving a 5-0 win. Junior Erin Gallivan, who led Stafford with two scores, talked about the turnaround following the half.

In 2005, Stafford High School hoisted the AAA state championship Field Hockey banner. The Indian faithful remember that season well, and many believe this year's Stafford squad has the ability to perform at that level. Today's Commonwealth District opener certainly reinforced that sentiment as the Indians blanked the Riverbend Bears 3-0, with an effort that was confident, if not dominating. Buzz has been surrounding Stafford since late last week, when the Indians knocked off defending state champion Frank W. Cox 1-0 in a season opening tournament. If the Indians can consistently showcase the strong offensive play they've shown so far, the rest of the Commonwealth District could be in for a long year.

The Indians didn't play their most polished game tonight. They didn't have their best blocking, ball security, or gap discipline on defense. The one thing they did have going in their favor: De'Vonte Piggett. And tonight, that proved to be enough. The four-year starter scored both of the Indians' touchdowns, a 59 yard run off a reverse in the second quarter and the game-winning 45 yard touchdown reception with just 4:42 remaining in the game.
The miscues started early for the Indians. With 5:40 remaining in the first quarter and no score, Gar-Field faced a 3rd and 15 deep in their own territory. The shotgun snap sailed over QB Ryan Mason's head and Potomac recovered in the endzone for a touchdown, taking the lead 7-0.

Lou Sorrentino couldn’t have dreamt up a better debut as Mountain View’s head football coach. Friday night, he saw his team notch a decisive victory over last year’s 2009 VSHL AA state champions, the James Monroe Yellow Jackets. The game, played at James Monroe, was thrilling as big play after big play carried the Cats to victory. When the dust settled, Coach Sorrentino’s squad started off their season with a statement, emerging victorious against the defending champs by a score of 24-15.

It's a cool Friday evening in August, the high school football season is ready to begin. The marching band has practiced, fans are in their seats, and the players are prepared to take the field after a long offseason.
The Spotsylvania Knights played host to the Massaponax Panthers at Coleman Field on Friday night, for what would be both teams' season opener. The Panthers came out strong, dominating the Knights 43-19.
Panthers head coach Eric Ludden has high expectations, as his squad prepares to defend the Division 5 Northwest Region Championship. Overall, Coach Ludden was satisfied with the performance from his team in their first game of the season, but he is already thinking about what they can do to improve for upcoming games.
"I thought, I mean, you always are happy when you come out with a win,
